INBRE provides direct biomedical research training opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students in Maine:
- The INBRE Summer Research Fellowship program provides undergraduate students with a mentored, hands-on biomedical research experience. Maine INBRE mentors conduct research in a variety of areas, from molecular toxicology, bioinformatics and genetics, to neuroscience.
- Short laboratory training courses for undergraduates.
- Travel awards and research support for graduate students.
- The Maine Biological and Medical Sciences Symposium (MBMSS) is an annual two-day conference that is organized by a state-wide committee and run by INBRE, that brings together researchers from across the state of Maine to present research and attend talks and poster presentations from faculty and students.

Students attending an INBRE Undergraduate Partner Institution should also consult the institutional program description for special INBRE programs at their alma mater. Many of these institutions offer academic-year research opportunities.
Undergraduates at non-INBRE Maine colleges or universities are also eligible for some of these programs.
